AAPI Charitable Foundation is Making a Plea for More CF-Patron Members

We gladly welcome more Patron-Members for our AAPI Charitable Foundation.

The lifetime pledge to be a Patron-Trustee membership is $10,000, which is a one-time donation for individuals. Since voluntary donations are at an all-time low, the AAPI-Charitable Foundation is making a plea for more Patron members. (We proudly announce that all current AAPI-CF -executive committee and past AAPI–Charitable-Foundation Presidents are Patron Trustees.)

We have several alumni & specialty societies who have donated $10,000 for the Organizational Patron Membership. E.g., TIPS (SW) chapter, TIPS (State Chapter), Indian Am Urology Assoc (IAUA) etc We respectfully also requested state chapters, Medical School alumni organizations and Specialty societies to become AAPI-CF Patron-Association-members so that we can achieve our goal of 50 new patron members.

We are also encouraging our own liaison officers and Directors to donate/raise funds. We expect new projects such as the new Project-ECHO-replication in India, Refugee/Rural Health Camp on Jan 5-8 near Ahmedabad, immunization programs and other worthwhile causes to attract more donors and Patron members into our cherished organization. Please visit our website www.aapicharitablefoundation.org to learn more about our clinics, ongoing research, Poster section for the GHS and AAPI convention and development, along with new projects that are underway.

Through the assistance and hard work of several dedicated and distinguished AAPI Physicians, the AAPI Charitable Foundation was established in 1992. Our Foundation was designed to provide an infrastructure support system for needy patients in India with two main goals: first goal was to commit their time and resources to support the clinics for the indigent; and our second goal was to monitor effectively the clinics’ progress and be accountable for the overall success of the project.

AAPI-CF oversees 15 clinics in as many states, including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab, Orissa, and Tamil Nadu. The clinics vary in size and type with an average of 20,000 patients being treated at the clinic facilities every year. In fact, more than a million patients have received much needed medical care in India, thanks to on-site and outreach programs conducted by these 15 medical clinics. The Visanagar Clinic in Gujarat even received the Rotary International’s Model Clinic Award!

Our Charitable Foundation Endowment Fund continues to grow reasonably well. Over the years, many fund raising efforts on a regional as well as a national level have contributed to the success of reaching these milestones. Most notable among them were the efforts of regional coordinators in Pittsburgh who have hosted fundraising events annually for the past 18 years, the Texas Indian Physicians Society fund Raising event and Hema Malini charitable fund raising events

What the future holds and where do we go from here?

We are striving to fulfill our organization’s goal of supporting at least one clinic in each Indian State. We have also joined hands with other NGOs such as the Seva International to provide relief help during disasters. Partnering with the Nandi Foundation, we will provide purified water to several villages in hopes of preventing water-related diseases.
Currently our foundation is trying to work on newer projects like: ECHO project for rural India and Vaccination project

LONG TERM plan:
Advance our International student exchange program & the defibrillator program.

In addition, the Foundation has raised more than $55,000 for Hurricane Katrina victims alone and $50,000 have been given to the Prime Minister’s Fund for Tsunami Victims.

AAPI has also been present when calamities strike whether it is the Alabama tornado, or Earthquakes of Gujarat. AAPI-foundation has helped support three cancer centers and has helped in developing three major trauma centers and a hospital in Bhuj. They have also raised funds to help cyclone victims in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, earthquake victims in Maharashtra and Gujarat as well as the Kargil Jawan fund and the Prime Minister fund.

Future plans: We will continue to support our clinics in India, but at same time, we should put charity clinics, in this country, under umbrella of AAPI-charitable foundation but funding will be responsibility of local/state chapters. We hope to demonstrate that the AAPI charitable foundation is also partner in this country by forming Charitable Clinic Consortium under the aegis of AAPI Charitable Foundation. AAPI doctors in several regions are helping uninsured patients in this country; therefore we should be able to bring these clinics together. We may not be able to give any money (Budget neutral) but we may be able to streamline the process, provide guidance and infrastructure.

Let’s all come together and make these goals that are within our individual reach a reality. With your help, we can continue this invaluable humanitarian effort and serve our Matru bhoomi. & Karma Bhoomi

Please help us to continue supporting our clinics by donating, volunteering, and spreading the word about our organization. Email nickshroff@gmail.com for more information on how you can help those in need.
